Some More Evidence for Calorie Restriction

I saw the article below today on Yahoo.  A man in Minnesota who is celebrating his 113th birthday attributes his longevity to not eating very much.

According to the American Federation for Aging Research, "caloric restriction is an experimental tool that utilizes 'undernutrition without malnutrition.' In other words, caloric restriction refers to a diet with between 30-40% fewer calories than is typical, but which contains all the necessary nutrients and vitamins to support life."

The science seems to indicate that caloric restriction works by slowing some of the destructive processes that take place in cells and tissues as we age. It appears to reduce damage from chemical metabolic processes, such as oxidative and glycation damage, which are thought to be the primary causes of cell aging and death.

Scientists also think caloric restriction slows down the effects of aging on the nervous system, the reproductive organs and the production of hormones in some animals. It also is thought to boost the immune system and delay the onset of certain age-related cancers.

"I Can Create That"

As I was doing a brief meditation this morning for the purpose of getting clear on my intention for a trial I began today, I had a cool insight.  I was visualizing what kind of picture I wanted to create with my presence and my questions and what kind of result I wanted to create for my client.  I was envisioning my performance (if you will) in the courtroom, and I entertained the thought of getting rattled or tired and losing my focus.

I immediately thought to myself, "I can create that."  At the very moment that insight flashed into my mind, I realized - yes, that's exactly what would cause such an occurrence - if I create it.  I decided in that moment that I will not create that.  I decided that I will create something different.  I will decide what I want to create and then do it. 

In the split second that I had that insight, I became aware of the amazing power I have over myself, my day...my life.  It kind of came to me in a flash and then hit me over the head.  It's funny how I (dare I say we) walk around believing that life or fate or luck is acting on us all the time, and we're a little bit powerless over what happens.  Now, I realize that God and nature do tower over us and we're mere mortals in the scheme of things.  But it's astounding the extent to which many of us truly underestimate the magnitude of our personal power.

Based on this spontaneous insight during my brief meditation, my whole day we redesigned.  I had an amazing day!
